INDUSTRIAL EXPERIENCES

TRAIN OF WINE

Discover the awarded wines of this area and taste them paired with some typical products in our most famous wine region while we enjoy a trip in a touristic train which will make some stops at strategic places: Mediterranean forest, oliveyards and vineyards. We will finish our journey at an ancestral winery, where we will learn from the win elaboration process and some curious anecdotes.

TRADITIONAL FACTORIES: LEATHER SHOES & BRANDY

This excursion consists on a visit of a footwear factory in Valverde del Camino, whose family origin dates from 1950, working handmade shoes with genuine leather. Some members of the British Royal House and many Hollywood films have provisioned of footwear from this factory. Later, we will visit a very interesting cellar at La Palma del Condado where you will discover the brandy Luis Felipe, known and highly valued all around the world. Its annual production is necessarily limited, so the bottles are extremely expensive.

ISLA CRISTINA: SALTY VILLAGE

Isla Cristina was founded by Mediterranean sailors in 18th Century to work the fishing of sardine and tuna in the Gulf of Cádiz. Those people discovered soon another rich natural good, easily produced at the marshlands: the salt. Nowadays, this town lives thanks to the sun & beach tourism, and thanks to these old industries: fishing, preserving and getting salt. We will start crossing the old town and later we will visit the traditional salt flats, which are still working in Marismas de Isla Cristina Natural Site.

RIOTINTO MINING PARK

The British were captivated by Huelva, bringing the most important technological improvements for exploiting its mines in the area of Riotinto, and sprinkling the province with pieces of their culture. These included a unique architecture in Andalusia and an array of sports unknown at the time in Spain (such as football, golf, and tennis). The landscape of the mining area, which we will visit in a railway, is the best proof of this heritage: a lunar landscape crowned by what were, at one point, Europe’s largest open-pit mines.

MINING AREA & SIERRA DE ARACENA

This tour explores the north of the province, crossed by Sierra Morena and source of the two rivers in Huelva: Tinto & Odiel. The first one starts in Minas de Riotinto, where we will visit its mining museum and will see some of the mines. After enjoying its views, which will make us think on Mars and its landscape, we will discover the Natural Park Sierra de Aracena and visit its depths in the cave of Gruta de las Maravillas and the amazing natural balcony of Peña de Alajar.

RIOTINTO'S BRITISH HERITAGE

British companies installed in Huelva in 19th Century to exploit the mines of Riotinto, leaving here an interesting legacy. We suggest you a visit to the former British quarter Bellavista, where you will learn about the history and anecdotes of this colony. We also pay a visit to the Kirk, a Presbyterian-Scottish-style Chapel. Furthermore, we will come close to the Monument to the British Fallen of the Second World War. Thereupon, we will stopover at the British Club, a gentlemen’s place that was the center of social life in the village, also a meeting place meant for business of the RTCL. As a grand finale to our tour, you will discover the reason why the British colony settled in here: the famous copper mines of Cerro Colorado.
