THE DISCOVERY MONASTERIES

Christopher Columbus arrived to our land in 1485 seeking the support of the Catholic Monarchs for his trip. In 1492, the Admiral finally succeeded after the decisive influence of two Huelva’s monasteries on the negotiations with the Crown: La Rábida, where the admiral lodged and got the help of prior Fray Juan Pérez (Queen Isabel’s confessor), and Santa Clara in Moguer, which Columbus regularly visited for the abbess’ help, Sor Inés Enríquez (King Fernando’s aunt). Come with us to know the cradle of the Discovery of America and its history…

In that mythical journey, the Admiral took some wine from the county in his provisioning, and in following journeys, he also took vines which were planted in the New World. Therefore, the wine from the county of Huelva is the first in arriving to America, being known as ‘’the wine of the Discovery’’. One of these types of wine is the famous one called ‘’orange wine’’, which is only produced in this region and it is exported around the world. We suggest you to try these wines in a traditional winery, you will love it!
